THE WAY AHEAD: A NEW LOOK FOR THE ASSOCIATION

After an extensive review of our organisation by the National Executive, the National Council decided to reinforce the work of the Association across the whole spectrum of responsibilities undertaken by Branches and by the National Office. This resulted in deciding that a new structure was needed.

A new structure was considered necessary if we are to improve services to members and to improve our relevance to serving members of the Australian Defence Force.

Accordingly, the National Council decided that the three Vice-Presidents (Navy, Army and Air Force) would be replaced by five Vice-Presidents with functional responsibilities. The areas that the new Vice-Presidents will be asked to address are:

  • Advocacy and Compensation;
  • Pay and Conditions of Service;
  • Retirement Benefits;
  • Marketing and Communications; and
  • Special Projects.

The modus operandi as to how this new structure will develop will be determined over time. Suffice to say that the National Office, the Policy Working Group, our specialist legal and medical advisers and the Widows' Representative will remain key elements in the new arrangements.

Within Defence and the Government generally, the sophistication of specialist areas we need to deal with are becoming more demanding. Therefore a new approach to the important areas of our charter is required to produce improved outcomes for both the serving and retired serviceman and woman.
